STORMINSPANK'S HAWKEYE RAMBLINGS

Hi. My name is Justin VanLaere (don't try to pronounce it, you'll butcher it like everyone else). I am an I.T. guy by day, avid Hawkeye Blogger by night. My first love is sports, specifically the Iowa Hawkeyes and NCAA Basketball. Come March Madness, I predict the field of 65 and analyze the Bubble Teams (98% correct bids since inception). I follow Hawkeye recruiting closely, and moderate on Hawkeyenation.com. These are my Hawkeye Ramblings... enjoy my insanity.

LICKLITER HIRED: Hawk fans, get ready for some S-L-O-W basketball

BARTA GRABS BUTLER'S TODD LICKLITER...
Get ready for some S-L-O-W paced basketball

Don't get me wrong, I'd take Lickliter over Altman or Stallings any day... it's just going to be crazy to watch 50 point games.

2006-07

Only 4 other teams in the NATION had a slower pace.

Northwestern
Delaware St.
Samford
Princeton

Butler had the 332nd fastest tempo. LINK

2005-06

Only 8 other teams in the NATION had a slower pace.

Birmingham Southern
Northwestern
Georgetown
Richmond
Samford
Air Force
Delaware St.
Princeton

326th pace in the nation.

2004-05

Only 3 other teams in the NATION had a slower pace.

Samford
Air Force
Princeton

327th pace in the nation.

2003-04

Only 2 other teams in the NATION had a slower pace.

Princeton
Air Force

324th pace in the nation

We might as well get ready for 33 second possession every time down the court... I bet Tyler Smith will love that. Ugh.

Maybe we can lull the other team to sleep?

Umm.. it may be S-L-O-W but it is very efficient and disciplined. As far as 50 point games, there were less than a half dozen games this past year Butler scored in the 50's.

S-L-O-W doesn't mean boring and it certainly can mean WINNING!!!!!!

No doubt. I am excited to see the Lickliter era start, for sure. Let's hope Lick can bring in some decent recruits and restore passion to the Iowa BB fan base. Even if he isn't able to get top notch recruits, he has proven to be able to do more with less. Great hire by Barta, I hope we see more up and down action than the stats suggest.
